Automotive Care
We want our cars to run as long as possible and always have them looking like they just rolled off of the dealership for the first time. Unfortunately, cars are not invincible, and if you don't take care of them with regular maintenance they will start to literally fall apart.
Basic Car Care Rules
Here are a few basic tips to keep your car running great and looking like new.
* Change your
oil filter every 3000 miles. This is easy to do yourself, or you can go to an oil change service.
* Wash your car every couple months or as needed. Use a special
car wash instead of dish detergent.
*
waxing after every wash can keep your cars original luster. This creates an invisible barrier against dirt and water so you car will look great in between washings and when it becomes a certified antique.
* Don't forget to clean and condition your
interior vinyls need to be cleaned and protected against UV rays.
* Check your
pulleys regularly. These devices are imperative to the timing and cooling of your engine. The rubber belts need to be replaced after 40,000 miles as they will inevitably get hard and cracked. Make sure your pulleys are not bent either.
* After a while, the
silicone automotive hoses.
* Replace your
fuel filter should be replaced every six or seven years.
* Check your fluids regularly! If you are driving without
transmission fluid your car will be in a world of hurt.
* Changing your
air filter every 3,000 miles can improve horsepower and fuel economy as well as extending the life of your engine.
