Because of their strong representation of love, the claddagh is often given as a Ireland, the tradition goes that a ring worn with the heart facing inward means she is taken or "spoken for." The heart facing outward on the right hand means she is single and looking for love. The heart facing outward on the left hand means she is engaged, while the heart facing inward on the left hand means she is married.
