Types of Dive Flags
Diver down flags are required to be mounted on a float close to the actual dive site. Many states in the U.S. prohibit the display of this flag when there is no actual diver underwater.
The ALFA/ALPHA) on the other hand is used to prevent the vessel from collision and thus, is a navigational flag. It also provides protection for divers within the vessel displaying the flag. Displaying the A flag means "I have a diver down, keep well clear at slow speed."
Tips On Displaying The Dive Flag
Now that you already know the right gear, for it can be dangerous when a boat grabs or tangles the rope. Though, there is a regulation that the diver's distance between the flag must not be more than 100 feet.
