The Ibanez brand name of guitars dates back to 1929, when a Japanese instrument salesman, Hoshino Gakki, began importing Salvador Ibanez guitars from Spain. When the Spanish Civil War destroyed the Ibanez workshop, Hoshino Gakki bought the brand name and began manufacturing his own Fender guitars. They also drew some lawsuits from the American companies, which were settled out of court.
